Reduce Your Dog’s Stress

Today’s fast-paced world creates a great deal of stress for many people. These people are always looking for ways to reduce their stress levels. Some of these people may even get dogs to reduce their stress. Or alternatively, they may already own dogs yet still feel a great deal of stress. Unfortunately for dogs and their owners, the stresses of the world often times rub off on pet dogs. These dogs experience stress and anxiety just like their owners, living a challenging life and making the household more uneasy. However there are things that dog owners can do to reduce their dog’s stress levels.

Provide your dog with plenty of exercise. The exercise will reduce your dog’s stress on its own, however it will also deepen your bond with your dog which further decreases your dog’s level of stress. As an extra benefit, when you partake in exercise with your dog, you actually can reduce your own stress level. Together, you and your dog can combat your stress as a team! Do not make everything into a hardcore workout though. Remember that simple playtime can also do wonders for one’s stress level.

When you are not around your dog, provide him with thought provoking toys. Many modern toys force a dog to work for treats within the toy. These toys give your dog a sense of purpose and provide mental stimulation. Through these toys, your dog can feel better about his life, and feel more comfortable within the house environment.

Remember though that toys can never replace human interaction. If possible, take your dog to a doggy daycare a few days a week. Alternatively, enlist the help of a dog sitter or dog walker to help ease your dog’s mind when your schedule does not allow you to be there. Remember to appreciate your dog’s potential to help you lower your own stress levels, but only if you see to it that your dog is properly cared for and content within his own life.
