Many companies provide dog-friendly work environments

As we move into the future, the boundaries between work and home become harder and harder to see. Employers find that making their employees more comfortable increases productivity and creates a stronger loyalty in employees. Many employers have even begun to allow dogs in the work place. If you could take your best friend to work, would you?

Many of the companies that allow for dogs in the work place are small and independent businesses. However, a number of larger corporations also have dog-friendly policies. Advocates of dog-friendly workplaces insist that allowing employees to bring their dogs to work brings out the best in their employees. Employees are willing to work longer hours when they know their dog is contently lying at their feet. They are also more committed to producing greater results for their employer, partially because they feel more involved in the company and more appreciated by their employer. Dogs are also known to reduce stress and illness, improving the quality of life in the workplace and decreasing the number of sick days taken by employees.

Businesses in the pet and dog industry are the leaders in dog-friendly work environments. However even if your employer allows for dogs at work, it is important that you consider your individual dog before he accompanies you to the office. Be sure your dog is well-behaved and friendly. Make sure you provide your dog with plenty of exercise out of the office so he will be polite and content indoors all day with you. If you have a large dog, be sure your office area contains enough room for him to be comfortable all day. Provide plenty of fresh water and possibly a bed for your office dog. Also take care to groom him regularly to keep your office cleaner and your co-workers happier.

If your employer permits dogs in the work place, make sure you are clear on their specific policies before bringing your dog to work. Also communicate with your co-workers to make sure the dog will not interfere with their comfort, especially if they have allergies. Employees taking their dogs to work can lead to great things in the work place. Talk to your employer to find out if it is appropriate for your company.
