LEDs provide canine safety after dark
Much of the time, your dog’s exercise routine will not line up with the sun’s schedule. This is especially true for the winter season, when the days are shorter. Many times, people spend all of their sunlit hours at work, leaving before dawn and returning home after sunset. Nevertheless, many owners strive to maintain an exercise schedule for their dogs. If you frequently let your dog outdoors before the sun rises, and after it sets, consider investing in a collar-light to keep him safer through the darkness.
Many companies these days produce lights that attach collar lights for dogs. Some products come with the light attached to the collar. Other times, the collar comes separately, attaching to your dog’s existing collar. Regardless of which type you choose, be sure it is made especially for dogs, so that it will be safe for them to wear around their neck. Find the appropriate size for your dog. A light that is large enough for a Great Dane may be far too hefty for a Boston Terrier. And, be sure it is waterproof so that it will not get ruined in the rain, or cause harm to your dog in wet conditions.
Typically, these lights are LED’s, or Light Emitting Diodes. With proper care, they should last for many, many years. Most of them require batteries, so take care to keep the batteries fresh to maintain the light’s effectiveness. Some of the lights blink, while others maintain a steady light. Figure out which style is best suited for your specific dog. Some dogs may be wary of the light in the beginning. However, take small steps when introducing the item to your dog. Over time, most dogs will come to readily accept the light.
The dog-collar lights make great additions to any dog walks in the dark. Additionally, the add an element of safety even when your dog is outdoors pre- or post-daylight. Many people find them helpful for camping trips as well, when light sources are scarce. Remember to keep your dog safe all hours of the day, dark or light.
