Holistic Puppy Dog Health Facts and Info

Conventional veterinary medicine has advanced considerably in the last twenty years. Illnesses, traumatic injuries and mysterious symptoms that were death sentences for a pet now can be treated and often cured. But conventional veterinary medicine still has some drawbacks. It can have very harsh side effects. It also treats an animal as a list of symptoms, not as an entire animal. This is one reason for the increasing interest in holistic puppy dog health.

Holistic puppy dog health can often be a great benefit to conventional treatments. Ideally, you shouldn't try to completely replace conventional medicine with holistic – for you or for your pet. But both medical systems can often work together to get you and your pet on the road to wellness.

Common Kinds Of Therapies
There are many holistic puppy dog health therapies for you and your pet to choose from. Many of these holistic puppy dog health therapies are based on their human counterparts, which was often developed first. About the oldest type of holistic pet care is acupuncture. This system of medicine has been around for over 5000 years. Ancient acupuncture charts were for humans and other animals like dogs and horses.

You might know someone who goes to a chiropractor, or perhaps you go to one yourself. This commonly seen form of alternative treatment for humans also has a veterinary counterpart, usually called veterinary chiropractic. This only seems to work best for specific conditions like spinal pain or muscle pulls.

Many other holistic puppy dog health therapies include homeopathy, nutritional therapy, behavioral modification and herbal medicines. Your holistic puppy dog health care practitioner will probably combine two or more of these methods. For example, vet acupuncturists will go over your pet's diet, exercise regime and often prescribe Chinese herbal supplements.

Get To Know The AHVMA
In order to get your pet holistic care for your puppy, first you need to find a holistic vet. Your regular veterinarian might be able to recommend one. If that doesn't work, then you need to contact the American Holistic Veterinary Medical Association. They can help you get in contact with any and all of the holistic vets in your area.

If you don’t live in America, you still have International Associations that you can get in contact with. You need to know what kind of holistic therapy you want for your pet, however. There is an International Association for Veterinary Homeopathy and the International Veterinary Acupuncture Association.
