Dog Mounting Problem: How To Stop Dog Mounting Behavior


Dog mounting behavior is a normal and commonly seen canine behavior. In most cases, dogs are usually showing signs of a dominance display rather than of sexual behavior. In young puppies, it is simply a play behavior, In adult dogs, it is a method of canine communication and the mounting dog behavior is generally displaying his dominance.

No matter what and more often than not, your dog’s mounting behavior can be quite embarrassing especially if you are in public places. Dog mounting behaviors should not be a acceptable behavior and is both ugly and embarrassing for its owner.

The correct way to stop a dog mounting behavior problem is similar to that of a dog jumping problem. The behavioral problem should be corrected on the spot. Nevertheless, when it comes to a mounting dog, it is more troublesome and tricky and you must not try to punish a mounting dog whenever possible because they get provoked more easily.

One of the best ways to stop dog mounting behavior problem is to redirect your dog’s attention. Getting your dog to be involved in more activities, giving it more exercise and walks, and play time are good ways to divert his attention.

Alternatively, give your dog some time to cool down by taking it to another room or crating it and ignoring it totally. This method helps as most dogs are eager to please their owners and knowing that a certain action do not please you, they will tend not to display it.

If you find out that your dog mounting behavior problem is the result of hormones imbalance. The most effective solution to stop dogs mounting behavioral problems would be to neuter your dog if you have no intention to breed it. You can also ask your vet for hormones injection to minimize its mounting behavior. It is the duty of every responsible dog owners to have his or her dog spayed or neutered.
